The recognition of the value of inclusive education is present in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in particular in SDG 4: “Guarantee inclusive, equitable and quality education and promote life-long learning opportunities for everyone”.

At the national level, the Spanish Disability Strategy and its 2014-2020 Action Plan constitute the benchmark for public policies in this area. Its main objective is to reduce the dropout rate and increase the number of people with disabilities in higher education by supporting educational centers in the process towards inclusion and awareness of the educational community.

According to data from the State Disability Observatory (OED), during the 2017-2018 academic year there were 219,720 students with special educational needs derived from a disability and 16.6% of them were enrolled in the Special Education modality. One of these centers is the ADEMO Foundation Special.

Currently, the Special Education Center serves seventy-five students with mental disabilities, multiple disabilities, and serious developmental disorders. The school facilities subsist thanks to basic support from the Administration and donations from various entities and companies. One of the most urgent needs that the Special Education Center required was the equipment for the care of their children.

Knowing this situation, at Oceano Solidario we decided to support the work carried out by ADEMO by supplying school furniture for the dining room.

This made a significant difference in the day to day life of their children because, due to the particular characteristics of their physical and psychic disorders, they needed specially manufactured adapted material. In February 2017 the collaboration between the two Foundations began, after which we hope that many others will come.To continue our contribution, at Oceano Solidario we are working to provide the School with a special relaxation room to treat students with TGC (Serious Conduct Disorder) during the crises that they occasionally have which disrupt the normal dynamics of teaching activities. We hope that this project will materialize soon.

We hope to continue collaborating to support the present and future of this group of children.

Education College. The ADEMO Foundation, based in Madrid, is dedicated to supporting and giving opportunities to people with intellectual disabilities, so that they can develop a life project enhancing all their abilities and promoting their inclusion as full citizens in a just and caring society. The Foundation currently manages an Early Care Center (to serve children from birth to three years old), a Special Education Center (which offers adapted teaching throughout the school stage, from four to twenty-one years old), two Occupational Centers (in which adults with disabilities, who have the possibility to do so, carry out paid work), a Sheltered Housing (in which adults with disabilities live independently in small groups supervised by professionals of the Foundation) and a Service Group entertainment for users of all ages.
